North East West South

India is a land of kaleidoscopic diversity. The country's 2.6 million square kilometres harbours an immense variety of scenery that ranges from the palm-edged beaches of the tropical south to the eternal snows of the mighty Himalaya.

The diversity is seen in Delhi's wide streets and handsome architecture or the nearby remnants of earlier civilisations. Mumbai depicts the nation's commercial capital while Rajasthan's ancient culture is recalled in its ornate palaces and brightly embroidered clothing. The love of a Moghul emperor for his queen takes form in the sublime beauty of the Taj Mahal while traditional music fills the warm evenings along Goa's beaches. Taste the fire and colour in the variety of foods found in the scrumptious finger-licking curries of the south or the subtle creamy textures of the Moghul cuisine.

Wherever you are, Footmarks will take you, into the vast variety and diversity with every step of the way. Let go of your daily troubles and let us melt away your city tensions and enjoy the ride.

'Little Tibet', 'the moonland' and 'the last Shangri la' are the names that have been applied to Ladakh, all with a bit of truth. Ladakh is a high altitude plateau, north of the Himalaya. It is believed that it hardly ever rains in Ladakh. This is because the Himalaya is a very effective barrier to rain - few clouds sweep across their awesome heights and as a result Ladakh is barren beyond belief. The place was opened only in the mid 70s to outside visitors.
